Recently, my studio has started getting work recording bands. Originally, I designed my space with private teaching (with video cameras); remote drum tracks; and drum instructional videos in mind. However, I have started to embrace engineering and getting good sounds on the entire band. My first project was a soft jazz type of thing which was fun. Just yesterday, I had the pleasure of working with two different student groups playing rock. It was challenging having lots of sound in my 1,100 sq ft space, but it worked fairly well. My main issue was with the drums leaking into the vocal mic. I am going to look into building a mid-priced vocal booth. I was able to get a decent amount of separation from the two guitar amps which actually surprised me. I used some home-made iso cabinets that seemed to do the job. I look forward to more of this as I continue to learn.
