I have a young student who was given the chance recently to sit in with a professional band at a July 4th party. I wasn’t there, but I saw the video. He held down the groove like a pro!
The band’s song list consists mainly of classic rock tunes. My student and I were able to go through the list prior to the party in the hopes of getting somewhat comfortable with two to three songs. We weren’t sure if the band would be open to having someone “sit in” with them, so he and I talked about the different possibilities. I was able to email them to give them a heads-up that my student would be talking to them and requesting to play. They couldn’t have been nicer about it. Not only did he sit in, but they treated him professionally and with respect. It’s an experience that he will never forget!
