I just had the opportunity to play a nice jazz gig in a great venue backing up a jazz pianist. It was a classic jazz piano trio – piano, bass and drums. We played standards and one original composition. There was no rehearsal for this gig! I went to youtube and found a video that allowed me to hear the original tune. Other than that, it was a matter of knowing standard jazz tunes and using my ears. There were some nice moments up on the band stand that came from the interplay of jazz musicians. It was lots of fun and the audience was appreciative, as well.

I consider myself lucky any time that I get to play music. It’s something I truly love. When it’s coupled with the experience of interacting with wonderful people who are also wonderful players, then it’s more satisfying than I can describe. I try not to take this for granted.
