I’m in a phase where I seem to buying a bunch of “new” music to listen to right now. Some of it is relatively new to the market, while most of it has been around for a while. Quite a bit of it is jazz trio stuff. The piano jazz trio is so cool and there’s so much out there available for consumption.
I’m really enjoying listening to Antonio Sanchez on “Migration.” Wow! It’s not the piano jazz trio format, but it’s really been inspiring to hear. Others that are big fun: Hank Jones Trio: The Trio. Brad Mehldau Trio: Art Of The Trio, Vol. 4: Back At The Vanguard. Jonathan Kreisberg: Shadowless. (This is not a piano jazz trio, but I’m digging it just the same.) Inception by McCoy Tyner Trio is part of this “new” list as well. Bill Charlap Trio: written in the stars is on my list, too. I haven’t heard much of it yet. Someday My Prince Will Come by Wynton Kelly is classic and I’m looking forward to digging into that recording as well.
I’ve got lots to listen to here and I’m looking forward to some “new” ideas!
