I have been trying to be consistent recently with my drum practicing. It’s something I talk about with my students, and it’s working for me too!

Life does get busy with all the “stuff” to do, but there does seem to be a way to squeeze some drum practicing into my daily routine. I’m working on general technique – never-ending, it seems! I’m trying to learn some new tunes, as well. I’m also working through some great linear drumming material. It’s fun and challenging. I’ve been video recording a lot of my practicing which is helping tremendously. E.g., my flams were sounding good to me while I played, but upon listening back I noticed that they weren’t as “open” as I would have liked. It’s a very personal preference, so it’s not a matter of right or wrong here. I’m trying to make the adjustments to get them sounding the way I truly want them to sound.

Practicing is great for keeping up my technique and learning new things. It’s also an incredible way for me to stay happy. I cannot describe what it does for my psyche and general over-all mood. Try it and see if this is true for you as well!
