There have been times when I’ve come away from a gig and I’ve been in pain. My arm was sore and fatigued. The music was fun and all, but my body was telling me a different story. Gradually, I’m learning to listen to my body and make adjustments. I’ll try the same gig at least one other time and if I experience the same thing, then that gig is probably not for me. The usual culprit here seems to be volume. I’m not a heavy hitter, and when I take a gig that turns into a heavier situation than usual then I can have some problems. This is not always the case, so I do try and stay open. However, I am finding that the more I concentrate on playing music that really lights a fire under me, then I’m fine. This cannot be underestimated, in my opinion. My goal is to stay honest with myself and others.
