I have found that when communicating with fellow musicians/bandmates that my ideas have a good chance of being heard when I put them in the form of a request. Instead of telling someone what to play, I’ll try saying, “hey, I have a request — could we try that section with this other feel?” I also refrain from getting personal or judgmental in my statements. There’s no need for that and it serves no purpose. This seems to be the best way for people to not get defensive and allows them to remain open to my suggestion.
This is something that I like applying in my personal life, as well. It seems to serve me well.
