I have been teaching drums for quite a while at this point, yet in never ceases to amaze me when a student starts to get it. This may be something as basic as their first drum beat, fill, or even their first snare drum etude. It just always gets to me — passing on this knowledge and love of the instrument to another person. As much as I can see in their face their joy, I sense inside of me a profound commitment to never stop doing what I love. I hope that I can continue to inspire these budding musicians who have decided on the drums as their instrument. That will always be my goal — to ignite their joy, mix that with my commitment to the drum set (and to them), and watch them grow. Their dedication to the craft becomes joyous for us both.
