I have had many drummers whom have influenced me over the years. One, in particular, is Tony Williams. I’ve talked about Tony before, however, today I want to specifically talk about his recording entitled, “Believe It,” and the guitarist on that recording.
This album was released under The New Tony Williams Life, and introduced me to a brilliant guitarist by the name of Allan Holdsworth. Allan Holdsworth did things on the guitar that I had never heard before — he was very fluid, melodic and could really get around on that fret board. Unfortunately, I had to say “was” in the previous sentence. Mr. Holdsworth passed away yesterday, April 16, 2017, at the age of 70. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I’ve had many drumming influences, and luckily that has also led me to some of my favorite guitarists. Rest In Peace.
