Some musicians stop taking lessons at a certain point. I want to keep learning, so I buy DVD’s, books, and listen to lots of music. I also brush up (pun intended) on things with drummers and drum teachers. Recently, I heard a classical trained vocalist say that, “you take your car in for a tune-up on a regular basis. Why not your instrument?” Like many of us, I can tend to get a bit busy, so it’s not always at the top of my list, however, it’s still there. I would encourage all drummers to seek out a mentor that they can keep in touch with throughout the years. There is still plenty for me to try to learn.
