Being Versatile

I enjoy listening and playing lots of different kinds of music. I grew up mainly around pop and rock, but gravitated toward the fusion music of the ’70’s. That music was my gateway into jazz. I was completely blown away by Billy Cobham with Mahavishnu Orchestra and also when he started releasing his own albums. Spectrum remains a classic to this day. Tony Williams‘ playing on Believe It had me believing! Both of these drummers had been influenced heavily by what had come before them, and I wanted to explore that. I’m still drawn to the raw energy that was created by these guys. Any music that expresses emotion is headed in the right direction, as far as I’m concerned.
