My drum teaching studio has morphed into a recording studio. I still teach drum lessons and record all lessons to a DVR so that students walk out of every lesson with a DVD of that lesson. In addition, not only can I also record drum tracks for anyone whether we’re in the same room or not, but I can record entire bands utilizing my 32-channel Toft mixer, Lynx Aurora converters and ProTools. It’s way cool.
It’s been a process for me and the gear. The latest phase has been upgrading cabling, more robust/professional patch bays, a Grace m903 and a nice Furman headphone system. I just went from having a nice studio to a “real” studio. My monitoring through my Focal speakers went up quite a few notches with the Grace m903. The Furman HDS-16 Headphone Distribution Unit along with five Furman HRM-16 Headphone Remote Mixers will give all the musicians in the room the ability to have their own mixes at their fingertips. Everyone can have more “me” in their “cans.”
I continue to count my lucky stars and remain grateful.
