Over the years, as I’ve tried to develop a more fluid way of approaching the drum set my main focus has been my arm motion. In conjunction with that is the thought that the drumstick is simply an extension of my arm. I put the stick into motion through an arm stroke that could be equated with bouncing a ball, then I continue that motion into my stick. Buster Bailey is the first one to get me to think this way. I went to study with Buster in order to learn how to play a multiple bounce roll. I came away with a whole new and wonderful approach to the entire instrument. I will be forever grateful.
